Sarah came to London from Australia over 30 years ago. As a physiotherapist practising on Harley Street she soon gained a reputation as a back specialist
Sarah has treated hundreds of patients and developed her own theory based on old and new research as to why backs break down. It is her mission to transform the way we approach and treat bad backs. She believes the Disc becomes dehydrated and can begin to deteriorate if we are sedentary for too long. She says "The spine is an elongated concertina of many bricks sitting on top of each other."The 'bricks' should pull apart and compress, this lubricates the discs and keeps the spine flexible. Bending gives the discs a drink. Eventually the bones come together causing pain as they rub. Discs can start to wear out and even cause arthritis."
Sarah wrote her first book Back in Action in 1986 and The Prince of Wales one of her many clients and advocates wrote a glowing foreword in her book 'Back Sufferers' Bible'. Physiotherapists can train and become accredited in her unique approach, which I did over a year ago. I now work with Sarah here in the UK to help run her workshops, and her Back in a Week course, which I hope to reproduce and run in the near future. I am now embarking on the teacher training course to teach other physiotherapists. I am also on the Neuromusculoskeletal Faculty of a New College of Medicine opening this year (2010)
